Brotkorb / breadbasket

At the beginning of the year I needed birthday presents for two good friends of mine. This breadbaskets made of fabric are totally "in" in Germany and very expensiv. So I saved money and rather invested some time. First I sewed the violet breadbasket. The second friend had to wait a little longer for her basket. Somehow I wanted to sew the edge skillfully. I had lot of ideas, but in the end I did it the same way I did the first one and sewed the edge manually.

At the "Nadelwelt 2012" in Karlsruhe, I had bought a craft set for a Magic Cube. Now I've spent a few days with my parents - without my own sewing machine, but not without my Patchwork-bag including basic equipment.
A good opportunity to sew the magic cube. It consists of eight foam cubes and is covered with cloth. When it's finished, each part of the cube can be rotated and turned to open and reassemble - nearly endless.

Nadelwelt 2012 in Karlsruhe

In May the trade fair "Nadelwelt" take place in Karlsruhe. It was the first time for me and a friend of mine - and it was worth it. You can see my loot above. Particualy, I was pleased about one chance find. At one booth, they offered only unicolor cloth and little samples of every color - just 2" x 2"! Perfect!!! 201 pieces at all. But they assigned every piece a number and not all could be scrubbed. Nevertheless I will use them in "My Neverending Story". Apart from that I found another few nice cloths, threats, woven ribbons and buttons. My conclusion: next year again!

Geschafft!!!

It's done! Our parents' birthday-quilt is finished. Although not at that time as planned, but it's finished. My parents and my sister like it - and so do I.
But eventually I had to set a deadline. ;) The exhibition of Mrs Schwanitz came on cue. Once a year, customers and course participant can expose their finished pieces in the shop. This was my chance to finish the quilt.
Most people ask me about the time, I needed for the quilt. Have you ever wrote this down or have you ever recalculated it? I can only appreciate it. The cat's paw were most time-comsuming - and most annoying too. Every single loop had to be sewn for its own. And every single loop had four threads to be sewn... Fortunately I bought this "cheater-needles". With this needles it is possible to sew all threads at once. - The cats' faces I like the most. They are grinning like the cheshire cat of "Alice's adventures in Wonderland"! They are handquilted, just like the mice.
