Brotkorb fertig

Der Brotkorb ist fertig - und meine Nerven auch. Eigentlich wollte ich den Rand mit Federn quilten, aber meine Maschine hat gestreikt. Die Oberfadenspannung war immer, aber wirklich immer zu hoch - selbst, wenn sie auf 1 oder 2 stand. Also habe ich den Rand etwas einfacher mit "flowing glass" gestalte. Letzten Samstag habe ich die Maschine gleich zur Reparatur gebracht. Und? Was war es? In der Unterfadenführung hatte sich ein dickes Staubkorn verklemmt und der Unterfaden hatte einfach keine Spannung mehr... Eigentlich bin ich ganz froh, dass nicht schon wieder was kaputt war.
Durch die Größe des Korbes sind die Ränder relativ instabil gewesen. Ich hatte zuerst überlegt mit langen Stäben, die durch die eingenähten Schlaufen geführt werden, die Ränder zu stabilisiern. Das hat nicht soooo toll funktioniert. In meiner Patchworkgruppe sind einige auf die Idee gekommen, einfach eien andere Schnürung in den Ecken zu machen und auf einmal hält es - auch ohne die Stäbe. Jetzt bin ich mal gespannt, was das Geburtstagkind morgen sagt.

The bread-basket is finished - and my nerves are on edge. I thought to quilt the borders with feathers, but my machine struck. The needle thread tension was always to high - although it was turned to 1 or 2. So I disigned the borders with "flowing glass". Last Saturday I took it to the rapair store. And? What was the problem? In the bobbin thread tension was a big grain of dust and the bobbin thread tensionwas nearly by zero... But I'm glad, that nothing was broken.
Because of the size of the basket the borders are relative instable. First I planed to take long sticks, which would be guided through the loops, to stabilze the borders. That was the best solution. In my quilting-group some got the idea to make another lacing in the corners and suddenly - without the sticks - it held. Now I'm excited how it will suits the birthday child.

hab ich nicht gesagt, dass ich soetwas nicht noch einmal nähe...?

Mmmmh, letztes Jahr hatte ich geschworen, dass ich keinen Brotkorb mehr nähe. Mich hat dieses blöde Gefummel genervt, bis der Rand am Boden dran war, aber was tut man nicht alles für gute Freunde. Ein Freund von uns wird demnächst 30 und hat sich solch einen Korb gewünscht. Allerdings größer als die beiden anderen und nicht in schwarz. Für mich ist das mal wieder DIE Möglichkeit mich beim Quilten auszutoben. Leah hat mich letzte Woche darauf gebracht, dass man mit einem dicken Vlies einen Trapunto-Effekt erreichen kann. Als Motiv habe ich mir einen keltischen Knoten ausgesucht und als Quiltmuster Micro-Stippling. Ich liebe dieses Muster und bekomme es auch recht gut hin. Jetzt muss ich mich nur noch mal trauen, ein neues Muster zu quilten. ;o) - Und für den Rand habe ich auch schon eine Idee: Dieses Mal habe ich die Seiten gleich angenäht. Die offenen Kanten werden mit Schrägband eingefasst und dann mit Nietenringen versehen. Denn kann man die Seiten mit Bändern hochbinden.

Mmmh, last year I've sworn, I'll never sew such a breadbasket. It's buged me until the border had been sewn to the bottom. But the things you do for good friends. A friend of us is getting 30 and wished such a basket. But bigger than the other one's and not in black. For me it is THE chance to run riot by quilting. Last week Leah told about getting a trapunto-effect with a thick batting. Really nice idea! I took a celtic knot for the motive and micro-stippling as quilting-pattern. I love this design and I have it licked really good. Now, I have to dare new pattern. ;o) - And I have an idea for the border: This time I attached the border right in the beginning. The open edges will be framed by binding and amed with riveted rings. So you can tie up the sides with bands.

Brotkorb / breadbasket

Zwei Freundinnen hatten Anfang des Jahres Geburtstag. Im Momet sind diese Brotkörbe in Deutschland ja total angesagt und ziemlich teuer. Da kann man sich das Geld auch sparen und lieber ein bisschen Zeit investieren. Für die erste habe ich einen Brotkorb in lila genäht. Die zweite Freundin musste leider etwas länger auf ihren Korb warten. Irgendwie wollte ich den Rand geschickter annähen und hatte viele Ideen. Letztendlich habe ich ihn dann aber doch wie beim ersten Korb per Hand angenäht.

At the beginning of the year I needed birthday presents for two good friends of mine. This breadbaskets made of fabric are totally "in" in Germany and very expensiv. So I saved money and rather invested some time. First I sewed the violet breadbasket. The second friend had to wait a little longer for her basket. Somehow I wanted to sew the edge skillfully. I had lot of ideas, but in the end I did it the same way I did the first one and sewed the edge manually.
