Socken & Katzen-QAL

Gestern bin ich auch nicht zum Nähen bzw. Quilten gekommen. Aber das hat mich nicht gestört. Erst einmal habe ich ausgeschlafen ( - super! - ), dann ganz viel geputzt ( - naja muss ja sein ;) - ) und dann groß eingekauft und mit einem Freund indisch gekocht. JAM! JAM! War das lecker! Ich habe aber vergessen, Fotos zu machen. Es gab Rogan Josh, ein Curry mit Lamm, und Korma Pute, auch ein Curry-Gericht.

Yesterday, I didn't sew or quilt at all. But this didn't matter. First I slept in ( - great! - ), after this much cleaning ( - ok, that had to be done ;) - ) and then a big shopping and indian cooking with a friend. JAM! JAM! That was so delicous. I forgot to take some pictures. We had rogan josh, a curry with lamb, and korma turkey hen, another curry-dish.

Heute hatte ich meine Socken an, die ich zu Weihnachten bekommen habe. Schaut mal! Sind die nicht toll? Oben drauf hat jede Socke ein Zopfband. Was ich so toll finde, dass Christa trotz dem melierten Garn beide Socken nahezu gleich bekommen hat. Toll!

Today, I've worn my socks, which I got at Christmas. Look! Aren't they beautiful? On the top, there is a bow ribbon on each sock. What I like the most is, that Christa made the socks nearly equal although she used a blend thread.

Und heute bin ich auch wieder zum Quilten gekommen. Ich habe mich an meinen Katzen-QAL gesetzt. Vielen Dank für all Eure Tipps zum Quiltmuster! Ich habe mich sehr über Eure Vorschläge gefreut!
Zuerst habe ich mal ein Probesandwich gemacht, weil ich noch nie mit einem Monofil-Garn gequiltet habe. Die erste Nadel war nach zwei Minuten kaputt... Warum? So ganz weiß ich es nicht. Im Internet habe ich gefunden, dass man eine Metallic-Nadel nehmen soll. Mit der geht es jetzt auch richtig gut. Ich habe mich aber doch gegen meine erste Wahl - Ocean Current - entschieden. Ich fand auf einmal, dass so ein geschwungenes Muster doch nicht soooo toll passt. Danach mal ein wenig in Leah Days Quiltmustern gestöbert und dann das Muster "Rocking" gefunden. Das ist super!!! Es sieht richtig toll aus, weil es aus geraden Linien besteht und doch ein Over-All-Muster ist. Und gleichzeitig nimmt es nicht zuviel von den Katzen weg. Wie das aber aussieht, zeige ich Euch erst, wenn der Quilt fertig ist. Das Muster braucht doch relativ lange. Macht aber auch richtig Spaß. Für den Anfang seht ihr mein Probesandwich.

And today I could quilt again. I sat at my Cats-QAL again. Thank you so much for your quilting-pattern-tips! I'm very happy about your suggestions!
First I made a test sandwich, because I had never quilted with monofil-thread before. The first needle was broken after only two minutes... Why? I don't know. In the internet, I found a tip for using a metallic-needle. And this flows very well. I dicided against my first choice - Ocean Current. I think, the swinging lines don't fit very well. Grubbing in Leah Days quilting patterns, I found "rocking. That fits very well!!! It looks so good, because it has straight lines and a over-all pattern, too. And at the same time, it doesn't take to much attention of the cats. How it looks, I will show you, when it is finished. The patterns needs relative much time. But it's real fun. For the beginning, you can see the test-sandwich.

Nadeltäschchen & Valentinstag

So, jetzt ist der Valentinstag schon wieder vorbei. Wir - also mein Verlobter und ich - feiern ihn nie, weil wir heute unser "Halbjähriges" haben. Da ist uns der persönlichere Grund einen Tag später wichtiger. ;o) Aber ich hoffe, ihr hattet alle einen schönen Valentinstag. Letztes Jahr habe ich diesen Comic zum Valentinstag bekommen - und ich musste soooo lachen!

Ok, Valentin's Day is over right now. We - my fiancé and me - never celebrate this day, because today it is our half-year anniversary. This private cause one day later is much more important to us. ;o) I hope, you had a happy Valentin's Day. Last year I got this comic at Valentin's Day - and had to lough out loud! And for the English reader, I will try to translate and hope not to loose the funny sense.

Was ich ja schon seit längerer Zeit endlich mal machen wollte - aber ich bekomme gar keinen Hinweis, dass es immer mehr werden:

Meine Arbeitswoche war sehr anstrengend. Viel zu viel gearbeitet, zu wenig Schlaf und keine Zeit zum Nähen. Gestern aber bin ich mal immerhin um 19:00 Uhr aus dem Büro gekommen und habe endlich ein kleines Projekt für eine liebe Kollegin beendet. Sie fährt Montag zu Ihrer Tochter nach Schweden und da nimmt sie bestimmt (und hoffentlich) ihre neue Nadelmappe mit. Sie hatte mich schon vor Weihnachten gefragt, ob ich ihr mal eine Nähen könnte. Erst letzten Sonntag habe ich - peinlich, peinlich - damit angefangen und dann noch das Molton, dass ich zum Verstärken eingenäht habe, am falschen Ende eingebracht. Naja, also ein wenig Umdenken und ich finde, sie ist gar nicht so schlecht geworden. Sie hat sich auf jeden Fall sehr gefreut, als ich es ihr heute gegeben haben.
Zu Weihnachten habe ich von ihr ein paar selbstgestrickte Socken bekommen. Total schön und ich habe sie schon mehrfach angezogen.

My last working week was very exhausting. Too much working, too little sleep and no time for sewing. Yesterday I could leave the office at 19h00 and finished a little project for a really dear collegue. She will travel to Sweden next Monday to visit her daughter and then she will surely (and hopefully) take her new needle case with her. She asked me to sew such a case before Christmas. Not until last Sunday - really awkward - I started and then placed the molleton for stiffen the case in the wrong side. Ok, start to rethink a little bit and now, I think, it became really well, isn't it? She was really happy when I gave it to her today.
She gave me a self knitted pair of socks to me at Christmas. So nice and beautiful and I put them on multiple times.

ready to quilt - und Post zum Freuen

Die letzte Woche war mal wieder nicht soooo toll. Viel Arbeit und keine Zeit zum Nähen. Am Donnerstag hat mich aber eine ganz liebe E-Mail von Martina erreicht. Sie hat ein wenig ausgemistet und dabei ein Buch über New York Beauties gefunden - und das wollte sie mir passend zum Nähkränzchen schenken. Da habe ich mich so gefreut, das glaubt ihr gar nicht! Und heute war die Post schon da! Vielen, vielen lieben Dank, Martina!!!! Es ist genau das Buch, dass ich bei Sue in ihrem Quiltshop in der Hand hatte. :) *freu^3*

The last week wasn't mine. To much work and no time for sewing. But on Thursday a real lovely e-mail by Martina reached me. She cleared out a little bit and found a book about New York Beauties - and this one adapted to our sewing bee she wanted to give it to me. I was so glad, you cannot imagine! Und today it's aleady arrived! Thank xou soooooo much, Martina!!! It es the book, which I had look at when I was at Sues Quiltshop. :) *smile^3*

Heute habe ich mich dann nach zwei Stunden aufräumen und meinen Sportübungen endlich wieder an meine geliebte Nähmaschine setzen können. Das Top für den Katzen-QAL ist fertig und wartet mit Vlies und Rückseite aufs Quilten. Ich bin mir nur noch nicht 100%ig sicher, wie ich es quilten soll. Was meint ihr? Mir stellen sich da zwei Fragen:
1. Welche Farbe soll das Garn haben? Elisabeth Hartmann hat ein Garn passend zum Hintergrund gewählt. Ich hätte auch ein schönes Grau von Aurifil, aber ich überlege, ob nicht ein durchsichtiges Monofil-Garn schöner wäre, weil es nicht die bunten Stoffe überdeckt.
2. Welches Muster soll ich nehmen? Das Gitter von Elisabth Hartmann finde ich zwar nicht schlecht, aber ich möchte es nicht verwenden. Unten seht ihr ein paar Ideen von mir. Die "Topografic Map" und den "Current Ocean" finde ich nicht schlecht. Die Skizzen der Quiltmuster sind natürlich nicht in Originalgröße. ;o)

Today, after two hours of cleaning up and my sporty workout, I could sit to my loving sewing machine at last. The top of the Cats-QAL got finished and waits together with interface and backing for quilting. I'm not sure for 100%, how to quilt. What do you think? There are two questions:
1. Which color shall I choose? Elisabeth Hartmann choosed a thread, which fits to the background. I have a nice grey one by Aurifil, but I'm thinking about using a clear monofil thread, which doesn't cover the colored fabrics.
2. Which pattern shall I choose? The grid by Elisabeth Hartmann is fine, but I don't want to use this one. Below you can see some of my ideas. I like the "topografic map" and the "current ocean". The sketches aren't in original size, of course. ;o)

Nähkränzchen

Ich bin zwar eigentlich total müde und werde gleich ins Bett hüpfen, aber ich wollte wenigstens kurz erzählen, was ich mir für die nächsten Monate vorgenommen habe:Marle und Jeannette haben ein Nähkränzchen ins Leben gerufen. Sie wollen einen New York Beauty nähen. Ein schon lang gehegter Quilttraum. Und am Wochenende habe ich in Sues Quiltshop noch ein Buch mit einem NYB in der Hand gehabt, vor zwei Wochen habe ich eine alte Quiltzeitschrift nur wegen dem NYB auf dem Cover gekauft... Naja, da musste ich doch einsteigen, oder? Noch kann ich nichts vorweisen, aber wenn die Katzen fertig sind, werde ich mal mit den Pattern von Ula Lenz anfangen. Ich will nur Batiks aus meinem Bestand verwenden. Merle hat ein ganz tolles Logo erstellt. Und bis jetzt sind wir sieben Mitstreiter. Ich freu mich schon zu sehen, was alles produziert wird.

I'm totally tired and will go to sleep immediatley, but I want to tell you shortly, what I deal with the next months:
Marle and Jeannette have set up a sewing bee. They want to sew a New York Beauty. A really long time quilting dream of mine. And last weekend I held a book with a NYB in my hands at Sues Quiltshop, two weeks ago I bought an old quilting magazin only because a NYB was on the cover.. Well, I had to get in, didn't I? By now, I cannot show anything, but after finishing the cat quilt, I will try the free pattern by Ula Lenz. I want to use only batics of my stock. Merle designed a real nice logo. And by now, we are seven combatants. I'm really looking forward what we all will create.

Katzen-QuiltAlong II und Shoppen

Erst einmal vielen Dank für Eure lieben Kommentare! Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, dass Euch die Kätzchen so gut gefallen. Über die Woche hinweg habe ich fleißig weiter geschnitten. Da kann man schon fast ein paar "Aggressionen" abbauen. ;o) Bis Freitag hatte ich fast alle Katzen geschnitten und dann konnte ich am Abend endlich wieder an die Nähmaschine! *freu* Die Katzen gehen wirklich sooo schnell zu nähen, wenn man sie sich schon vorher nach der Anleitung von Elisabeth Hartmann sortiert hinlegt. Und dabei habe ich gemerkt, dass ich insgesamt 26 anstatt 25 unifarbene Stoffe gekauft habe. Ich habe schweren Herzens das ganz dunkle blau weggelassen. Aber alle anderen Farben hätten einen starken Sprung zwischen zwei Tönen gegeben. Naja, das Ende vom Lied ist, dass ich gestern die letzten zwei Katzenköpfe zusammengenäht und heute abend gebügelt. Sind sie nicht schön mit ihrem Farbverlauf? Allerdings bin ich bei "Violet" am Überlegen, den etwas grauen Stoff auszutauschen. Der fällt doch irgendwie ein bisschen zu doll heraus. Was meint ihr?

First, I want to thank you for your dear comments! I'm so glad, the cats please you. During the week I cut the other fabrics. You can give vent to one's "aggressions". ;o) Until Friday I cut nearly all cats and at the evening I could finally sit to my sewing machine. *smile* The cats are sewn together in such a quick way, when you sort them by Elisabeth Hartmann's manual. And then I recognized, that I had bought 26 instead of 25fabrics. With a heavy heart I left the dark blue fabric out. Every other fabric would have made a real big step between two chroma. Ummm, in the end I finished the last two kitten-heads yesterday and ironed them today. Aren't the nice by the color gradient? However, I thing about changing the grey fabric of "Violet". It steps out of line a little bit to much. What do you think?

Am Samstag war ich dann noch in Gäufelden und habe Susanne Fröschle und ihren Quiltshop besucht. Sie hat einen Online-Shop und man kann auch bei ihr zu Hause shoppen. Bei ihr bekommt man all die wunderbaren Zubehörteile, die man sonst teilweise nur in den USA bekommen kann. Toll! - Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle an Saskia von Niemanns-Land! Sie hatte mir den Tipp gegeben, mal dort nach King Tut-Garnen zu schauen, mit denen ich sehr gerne arbeite. - Ich habe mir z.B. eine ArtBin-Box gekauft, in der ich bei den Kursen meinen ganzen Kleinkram wie Rollschneider, Nadeln, Scheren, Stifte, Spulen etc. unterbringen kann. Die kleinen Fächer kann man herausnehmen. Und nun dann habe ich endlich auch richtige Quilthandschuhe von Machingers bekommen. Jetzt kann ich auch meine alten Reinraumhandschuhe mit gutem Gewissen waschen. Ich habe mich lange Zeit nicht getraut, sie zu waschen, weil sie sehr fein sind und vermutlich in der Maschine kaputt gehen könnten. Die Stoffe, die ich damit gequiltet habe, haben doch deutliche Spuren hinterlassen. *hust*

On Saturday I went to Gäufelden and visited Susanne Fröschle and her quiltshop. She has a online-shop andyou can go shopping at her home, too. You can get wonderful accessoiries, which you can get normally only in the USA. Wow! - Thank you so much to Saskia by Niemanns-Land! She gave me this hint to look for King Tut-threads, I like to use. - I bought me a ArtBin-Box. You can use it for bits and pieces like roller cutter, needles, sciccors, pens, bobbins etc. The little boxes can be removed. And now, I got some real quilting gloves by machingers at last. By now, I can give my old cleanroom-gloves a try and give them to the washing machine. I didn't dare to wash them, because are really thin and probably, they will be beat-up in the machine. The fabric, which I quilted, leave one's mark. *upps*

Kennt ihr die Pinmoors von Leah Day? Hier in Deutschland habe ich sie noch nie gesehen. In Sues Quiltshop gibt es eine gute und günstige Alternative. Es ist eine 1m lange Silikonschlange, die man sich nur noch zurechtschneiden muss. Dann kann man sie auf Nadelspitzen stecken und piekst sich nicht ständig.

Do you know "Pinmoors" by Leah Day? Here, in Germany, I had never seen them before. At Sues Quiltshop you can get a real good and cheep alternative. It is a 1m long chain of silicon. You only have to cut them in parts. Then you can push them on the top of the needle and won't be pricked again.

Auf dem Rückweg von Gäufelden habe ich dann noch einen Zwischenstopp beim großen schwedischen Möbelhaus eingelegt. Mein Freund war nicht sooo begeistert über die vielen Stoffreste, die durch den Katzen-Quiltalong überall auf und neben dem Sofa lagen und auch nicht mehr in meine Boxen passten. Also habe ich noch ein paar neue und unterschiedlich große gekauft. Jetzt stehen fast alle im Regal - aber das reicht auch schon nicht mehr. Ich brauch ein eigenes Nähzimmer!!! *gg*

On my way back home I stopped at the swedish furniture store. My boyfriend wasn't amused about the scraps laying on the sofa and on the floor because of the cats-quilt-along and which didn't fit anymore into the boxes. So, I bought some new one and and some bigger, too. By now, they are nearly all into my shelf - but this isn't enough. I need my own sewing room!!! *gg*
